I am a writer, editor and literary translator (Spanish-English).

WRITER. I write non-fiction essays, short fiction, blogs, and articles for magazines and newspapers. I've worked as an editor and writer for lifestyle magazines, textbook publishers, academic authors and self-published authors. My translation work from Spanish is focused on fiction, poetry and academic articles.

CURRICULUM DESIGN. I've been a professor of Spanish language for over twenty years, and I'm a skilled and inventive curriculum writer and editor for Spanish language education programs. I've taught at several universities (The New School, Princeton Adult School, Einstein College of Medicine) and a number of companies (General Motors, IBM), and non-profit organizations (El Taller Latinoamericano, U.S. Lactation Association). I've created Spanish curriculum materials, both print and online, for many large clients including Scholastic, Berlitz International and Holt, Rinehart & Winston.

TRANSLATION & TRANSCRIPTION. I am fluent in both Spanish and English. Most of my transcription and translation clients are journalists, university professors, researchers, and documentary filmmakers. On occasion, I've translated and subtitled for video and film production companies, and I served as project translator and interpreter for the Buena Vista Social Club project (Sony Records). My literary translations have appeared in The Sewanee Review, Surreal Poetics, and I am working on marketing two books to English language publishers in partnership with my author's agent/publisher, Editorial Planeta, Latin America.

WHO THE HECK I AM — REALLY. Though I was a New Yorker for 25 years, I love living now in the beautiful piedmont of North Carolina with my husband and two rescue dogs, Carter Coggins and Kuba Bear. I'm passionate about nature and the environment, language, old houses, gardening, philosophy, Latin American music and, above all, stories. As a former singer-songwriter and still guitarist and pianist, I aim for prose that is melodic as well as grammatically correct. I believe that editorial projects can be fun, and that the well-crafted sentence is a thing of beauty.

I am patient, organized, cheerful, a quick-learner, and a skilled virtual team member.
